I'm All For This

Why I Can Play The Ghost Of Christmas Past Better Than Anyone Else

My horoscope for today tells me
that I will "break the endless chains
of oppression." I'm all for this
unless it means giving up something
because I can add, that's fine, give
me something else to do, I'll do it,
but to sit in silence and listen to what
it says about me, that's too much and I'll
ask for the chains back, in fact, I'll make
them myself and instead of wearing them
around my neck, I'll save some time
and swallow them so that they can weigh
me down from the inside. People will love
me until they hear the death rattle.

Watch out for dune buggies! Good poem, Michelle.

I highly recommend Brad Gooch's biography of O'Hara, "City Poet." It's fascinating about Frank's involvement in the Abstract Expressionism movement in New York.

One evening while I was having cocktails at my favorite New York bar a young lady came up to me and, exposing her breasts, asked me to autograph them, with the felt pen she was holding out to me. I obliged her. Her apparent husband or boyfriend then approached me in a huff, pulled down his pants and asked me if I could autograph his penis. I told him no but that I could initial it.

If only they could love us still when they heard the death rattle...

People do love their chains.
Great poem.

What if someone knocks on the door and tells you they love you because they could hear the death rattle all the way down the hall ?

Haunting.
