(The Pill Versus the Springhill Mine Disaster)

Hey guys -- I'm working on a big project that's due very soon, so I'm going to leave you with my very favorite Richard Brautigan poem, the one that Janis Joplin hung on her wall. See you tomorrow!

"Your Catfish Friend

If I were to live my life
in catfish forms
in scaffolds of skin and whiskers
at the bottom of a pond
and you were to come by
one evening
when the moon was shining
down into my dark home
and stand there at the edge
of my affection
and think, “It's beautiful
here by this pond. I wish
somebody loved me,”
I'd love you and be your catfish
friend and drive such lonely
thoughts from your mind
and suddenly you would be
at peace,
and ask yourself, “I wonder
if there are any catfish
in this pond? It seems like
a perfect place for them."
— Richard Brautigan (The Pill Versus the Springhill Mine Disaster)

Sounds like he was hungry for fish when he wrote that one. Good luck on the big project.

I am so pleased that you introduced me to Brautigan when you did. I am even more pleased that Ferlinghetti and his City Lights and all of the other Beat poets were such asses towards him.

He never would have been the bridge to the next generation away from that mamma boy, whiner, howl bullshit of theirs, had they embraced him.

To me he ranks right up their with Crane and Bukowski, the right man at the right time.
