D Is For Detroit

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for the great comments about my new scar. In this picture, it's being covered by a bandage as it heals. The scar was really bad after surgery and has improved a lot. It's strange to think that I didn't have it a month ago and now it will be around forever. I've been arranging the last section of Second Day Reported (D Is For Detroit) and am worn out from the labors. I'm going to write a new light happy post tomorrow about something not concerning illness or violence. Or I will try. Right now, I'm going to leave you with a list of things I want to see at the movies very soon!

"The Wrestler" -- Going by the trailer, this movie looks like it was made for me. Mickey Rourke as a broken down professional wrestler, Marissa Tomei as a stripper he likes, and Evan Rachel Wood as his estranged daughter. Bleak but loving -- my favorite combination.

"Revolutionary Road" -- loved the novel. Here's hoping the movie is great as well. Nina Simone song ("Wild Is The Wind") in the trailer is fantastic.

"Gran Torino" -- Clint Eastwood and Detroit. What more do you want?

Happy Saturday!

Hey Michelle, I saw "Gran Torino." Not very good. The kid who plays the priest needs to take a few acting lessons. I did like the fact that it was filmed around Detroit, and that a first-timer wrote the screenplay while sitting in a bar.

Hi Michelle, keep that scar bandaged so it doesn't get infected - but you know that already I'm sure :)
This time of year is great for spending time at the movies, so I hope you get a chance to get out and see some of those.
Take care!

Mickey Rourke should've won the Oscar for "Sin City." Maybe he'll score this time around. Here's hoping. The guy's a trooper.--Oscar Winner

Hi Michelle!

I saw the trailer for 'The Wrestler', and it looks good. I also want to see Eastwood's new one.

If you want to lessen the scar's appearance, vitamin E oil helps...I have a scar on my forehead, but it's barely noticable now. I fell on a concrete floor(No, I wasn't drunk...that time)and got 28 stitches above my right eye. You can still see it if you look closely.

Check Mitch Albom's article about Detroit in the Free Press

First printed last Monday in Sports Illustrated. I think he does well in defining what transplants who now call this place home feel about it.

*Shrug* All the movies will be around to disc soon enough although the review I read of The Wrestler, sounded like Rourke has his head screwed on tight, I'll wait.

Gran Torino AND The Wrestler are both on my list.

Those movies sound good to me, too, especially the first two. Mike wants to see Revolutionary Road, but he's not sure that he can sit through the whole thing.
